It’s funny isn’t it, Winter doesn’t officially arrive until 21st December, but because of the cold it already feels like we’re right in the thick of it. If you’re like me and you don’t like the cold, Winter can be depressing but there’s always a silver lining and that is, it’s an excuse to buy a new Winter coat!
Whether I’m shopping for myself or a client, I always follow these 3 key rules:
1. Choose your most flattering Colour:
Coats are an investment piece, simply because you wear a lot of it. It’s a core piece found in your Capsule Wardrobe; therefore, it should be an item you look great in. Often, we just pop out to do some errands or even the school run without having time to put on a full face of make-up, so the coat is the first thing people see. Avoid depressing comments such as “you look tired” or “are you feeling run down?” or “was it a late night?” by wearing a colour that’s in your colour palette.

2. Choose a coat that flatters your Body Shape:
A coat can be a miracle item for every woman no matter what her shape. Different details on the coat, from a belt to shoulder pads to different sized lapels, to zips and pockets can do wonders to draw attention to your assets, disguise your flaws or create a balanced slimmer frame. Because your coat is the first thing people see, make sure that first impression is great!
3. Choose a coat that makes you Feel Great!
When you feel good, you look fantastic! Therefore, choose a coat that suits your lifestyle. No matter how nice the coat looks, if it’s not warm enough for your journey, the novelty will soon ware off. Or if you’re always feeling too hot, coats with too thick a fabric will be nothing but frustrating!
Never underestimate the power of texture; fabrics such as cashmere and wool not only look luxurious but feel it too, so if your budget allows it, buy it!
