If you haven’t realised it – Colour Analysis is back on trend, and everyone wants to work out what their most flattering Colour palette is. So where do we all start? Like anything we look for knowledge on the internet, but unfortunately as we all know you can’t trust everything you read online!

For example, I read a blog today and the girl (whose name I won’t mention) wrote: “in order to work out your ‘colours’ just trust your instincts”. Really? If we’re just trusting our instincts why are some Colour Analysts charging £300 for the service? The fact remains Colour Analysis is a skilled and professional service that people have to get properly trained on in order to correctly carry out the service.

Of course, you can experiment at home; put a black fabric close to your face and compare it to brown or see if you look more radiant in silver or gold but please just use it as an observation or curiosity not as anything gospel. Don’t go changing your hair colour, or update your whole wardrobe based on your instincts.

There are 3 things your Colour Analyst will be looking for when doing your colours: Are you Light or Dark, Bright or Muted or Warm or Cool? Once she knows what you are, the combination of these variables puts you into a Colour Season, then you’ll know the exact colours to choose for your hair, make up, clothes and even your accessories, but the only way to work this out is with specially selected drapes (in different colours and tones), a trained eye and daylight. Done any other way its just a guess. And in case you’ve read somewhere you can work out your undertone via the colour of your veins, know for sure, you can’t, it will once again just be a guess.

Also don’t get your colours done by just anybody, make sure you go to a reputable company. The sad thing when something is ‘trending’ there will be a lot of charlatans trying to cash in on the wave. Our Style ME Stylists have been CPD accredited, meaning they’ve been trained to the highest standard so there’s no fear you’ll be misdiagnosed/misinterpreted.

Yes, Colour Analysis is an investment but it’s only something you need to get done once in your lifetime and the effects of wearing your right colours will most definitely last a lifetime!
