Colour analysis is having a real moment right now. Social media is full of colour consultations, seasonal palettes and dramatic before-and-after transformations. Everywhere you look, people are discovering whether they’re a Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, and naturally, it makes others curious to find out their colours too.

However, alongside that curiosity often comes a little bit of fear.

One of the most common concerns I hear is, “What if they tell me everything in my wardrobe is wrong?” For many people, the thought of having their colours analysed feels slightly intimidating because they’ve spent years building a wardrobe they love. They’ve invested time, money and effort finding pieces that make them feel good, so the idea of somebody telling them their favourite colour isn’t flattering can feel quite disheartening.

The good news is that a colour analysis isn’t about criticism, judgement or making you feel bad about your choices. A good colour analyst isn’t there to tell you what you’ve done wrong. They’re there to show you what works even better.

In a colour consultation, nobody is going to tell you to throw everything away. In fact, that’s one of the biggest myths about colour analysis. The purpose of the session is simply to help you understand what certain colours are doing to your complexion and why some shades enhance your natural colouring more than others.

For example, perhaps you’ve always felt that you look tired, even after a good night’s sleep. Maybe you’ve noticed dark circles, a dull complexion or certain lines around your face that seem more obvious in some outfits than others. During a colour consultation, we’ll often discover that certain colours draw attention to those features, whilst other colours soften them and create a fresher, healthier appearance.

Let’s say black isn’t one of your most flattering colours. Nobody is going to tell you to get rid of every black item you own. Instead, we’ll show you an alternative, perhaps navy or charcoal, and allow you to see the difference for yourself in the mirror. When people see their skin looking brighter, their eyes appearing clearer and their overall complexion looking more radiant, the decision often becomes very obvious.

That’s the beauty of colour analysis.

It’s not about being told what to wear. It’s about seeing the effect with your own eyes and understanding why certain colours work better than others.

What’s interesting is that many women spend hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds trying to achieve the same effect through makeup, skincare, facials, fillers, spray tans and beauty treatments. Whilst there’s absolutely nothing wrong with any of those things, wearing the right colours can often create a fresher, more youthful appearance naturally.

Ultimately, colour analysis is not about taking things away from you. It’s about giving you more knowledge, more confidence and more choice. Think of it as a gentle nudge in the right direction rather than a strict set of rules. The goal isn’t to criticise your wardrobe; it’s to help you understand how to look and feel your very best.

And once you see the difference for yourself, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
